The Cluffy Wedge

by admin on September 1, 2010

The Cluffy Wedge is a foot orthotic modification that was given the trademarked name of Cluffy Wedge by Dr James Clough DPM. He described the Cluffy wedge as a means to treat functional hallux limitus, but many use it or a similar modification to the foot orthotic to treat a delay in the windlass mechanism. These are those patients who have a lot of dorsiflexion at the first metatarsophalangeal joint before you can find resistance from the windlass mechanism, so need it tightened up with either a hallux raise (Cluffy Wedge) or a heel raise or both.  The Cluffy Wedge is also available at the retail level, but I not sure what its being used for …..
