avulsion fracture OR bad sprain?

I fell and twisted my foot last Sunday. It felt bad enough that I went to the ER where they did an x-ray, told me it was a fifth metatarsal avulsion fracture, put on a splint and told me to get a referral from my PCP for further treatment.
