Broken 4th metatarsal

Is it at all possible that a broken 4th metatarsal could still heal 6 years after initial break? I am in a boot for a jones fracture in the 5th metatarsal that I recently sustained and am weighing wether I should just have the surgery to repair both or wait out the 3 weeks to see how the jones fracture is doing.
