clippers with sticky hinges

Hi everybody we have not posted for a while but thought this may be of interest. Here a Prosharp Sharpening Services we are getting a lot of instruments coming in for repair and sharpening with tight or sticky hinges. While this is not a problem as we can easily loosen them again we do charge $6-00 per instrument. The problem seems to be caused by staff not using the correct amount of chemicals when cleaning instruments after use or not flushing hinges thouroughly before autoclaving.Over a period of time and sometimes this is not very long, the autoclaving process cooks any residue left in the hinge and a build up of a brown residue is the result. This builds up and will eventually makes the instrument inoperable and can even cause the hinge to break.Too much chemical also shows up as a tea staining of the whole instrument.
