cloramphenicol on ingrown nails?

A while ago a fellow podiatrist mentioned that “latest thinking” was that the common over the counter antibiotic agent cloramphenicol (which is used in eye drop preparations for conjunctivitis etc.) can be used topically on infected ingrown toenails. Has any body else heard this
