Factors that trigger a gout attack and how to acoid them

Rather than high uric acid (some people never develop gout even with uric acid of 13 or higher), the main triggering factors for an attack are 1) Serum iron > 100 and ferritin > 55 (it exceeds 150 in most people with gout and usually is around 30 in 21 year old men). Iron increases urate and superoxide production by xanthine oxidase (especially when copper is low ) and urate precipitation even with uric acid of 7.
