When I read things like this…

…I roll my eyes. Not because there is anything wrong with the publication; it is just the heat and vitriol that I and others were subjected to over the years by the fan boy haters for pointing out what the overwhelming preponderance of evidence is continuing to show. Their propaganda and rhetoric is still not […] Continue reading

Impacts and injury and the transition to minimalist running shoes

I struggled to come up with a title for this post as in the study below two key points came out and the points that come out of the study are not necessarily related to each other. Continue reading

Minimalist Running Shoes and Injury Risk

This is not a new study and I did comment on it almost two years ago when the results were first available. What is new is that it was finally published in full today: Minimalist Running Shoes and Injury Risk Among United States Army Soldiers Tyson Greir, MS, Michelle Canham-Chervak, PhD, MPH, Timothy Bushman, MS, […] Continue reading

Minimalist vs Maximalist Running Shoes and Achilles Tendon Loads

Sometimes I struggle to decide what to include as the title of a blog post; this time is no exception. Should I title this post: “Minimalist Running Shoes Increase the Achilles Tendon Load” or should I title it “Maximalist Running Shoes Decreases the Achilles Tendon Load“? (I played with the headline concept before, here). Continue reading

Muscle Activity in Barefoot vs Shod Running

A number of relevant studies a have been published in the last few days. Rather than add them to that massive backlog of papers I need to write about, I am trying to knock them out quickly. The first one showed no injury differences between barefoot and shod runners; the next one showed no differences in injuries and performance between heel and midfoot/forefoot strikers. Continue reading

Effects of a seven week transition to minimalist footwear

One of the criticisms of some studies comparing the mechanics of minimalist vs traditionally shod footwear is that the intervention is acute and the effects were not measured after a period of appropriate acclimation to the different conditions. The results may or may not be the same after that acclimation or transition – we simply do not know if they would have been the same or not. Of course, those who don’t like the results of the study will point that out, but will ignore it if they like the results of the study Continue reading

The Influence of Arch Type on Injury in Minimally-Shod Runners

We have known for some time that there are different running injury risk profiles for different foot types, often depending on how you choose to classify them. Now this new study is suggesting that different foot types may have different injury risk profiles between traditional shod running and minimalist shod running: The Influence of Arch Type on Injury in Minimally-Shod Runners Galbreath, K.M.; Harrison, K.D.; and McCrory, J.L. International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings: Vol. Continue reading
