Podiatrist suspended for concealing caution order
Press Release: Podiatrist suspended for concealing caution order Quote: Podiatrist Gillon P Haggan has been suspended from the HCPC Register for omitting the fact that he was subject to a three-year caution order from the HCPC when applying for a position at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust. A panel of the HCPC Conduct and Competence Committee heard that Gillon P Haggan applied to work as a Community Diabetes Lead Podiatrist with the Trust using an online NHS application form. On the form, he indicated that he was not subject to any fitness to practise investigations or proceedings and did not have any conditions imposed by a regulatory body. Continue reading
New occupational health report aims to improve return to work
netizens Passed on in good faith. toeslayer http://www.employeebenefits.co.uk/be…101431.article Allied health professionals, such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, chiropodists and podiatrists, could play a greater role in helping ill or injured employees return to work following the publication of a new assessment report. The Allied Health Professions (AHP) Advisory Fitness for Work Report, which has been developed by The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), the College of Occupational Therapists and the Society of Chiropody and Podiatrists, is designed to complement the existing Statement of Fitness for Work, which GPs use to determine whether patients can remain in work, or need to be signed off Continue reading

Clinical Biomechanics Boot Camp; Manchester (v2.0) & London (v1.5&v2.0); Aug 2013
Due to popular demand (I was going to hold of on this for a while, but am surprised at the interest from the UK, when I announced v2.0 for Australia and New Zealand !) So hopefully, this does not get confusing: Manchester Sunday 4th August ; Clinical Biomechanics Boot Camp v2.0 (this is the one day version that has different content to the original Boot Camp v1.0) London Monday 5th & Tuesday 6th August ; Clinical Biomechanics Boot Camp v1.5 (this is the two day version that combines the content from v1.0 and v2.0) London Tuesday 6th August Clinical Biomechanics Boot Camp v2.0 (this is the one day version that has different content to the original Boot Camp v1.0; this is the second day of the v1.5, so both groups are combined on the Tuesday) The topics for v2.0 (the one day in Manchester and London) are listed below. Below that are the first day of topics for v1.5 (this is a condensed version of the old 1.0, with some redundant topics removed. Continue reading

Nurse to podiatrist
Hello all Wondering if you can help, I am currently an NHS nurse but am considering retraining as a podiatrist. I am feeling a bit burned out, I work 12.5 hour shifts and we rarely get breaks, I am also sick of being viewed by the public as a doctor’s handmaiden whose only function is to plump up pillows and give out tablets! I want to remain working in healthcare and become more of an autonomous practitioner, as podiatrists seem to be. However, are working conditions for podiatrists in the NHS just as dire as they are for nurses, being extremely short staffed and overworked? Continue reading

Press Release from HCPC: Podiatrist struck off for failings in patient treatment and records Quote: Podiatrist Peter Collins has been struck off the HCPC Register for a number of failings related to patient treatment, communication and record keeping whilst working as a Podiatrist in the Older People’s Directorate at NHS Bolton. He also did not demonstrate appropriate communication skills with patients in that he was disrespectful and unfriendly Continue reading
When is the best time to start applying for jobs?
I’m a third year student who will be graduating this summer, I was informed by a senior podiatrist on a placement I was on that now would be a good time to start looking and applying for jobs as it is quite a “lengthy process”. Obviously I won’t be able to start working until after I have graduated, but I was just wondering if this was correct and would be very grateful if anyone could provide me with some advice on this matter as I do have a vacancy in mind. Thank you 🙂 Continue reading
