Allopurinol

I have Been using allopurinol for about a year now,as I suffer from gout in my left elbow,wrist, I have noticed over the last month my right big toe as swollen up and also my ankle swollen as well,was ok before started these tablets,never add problems with my big toe and ankle,could it be these tablets I am taking there side effects?
